Myres McDouglas

Myres McDouglas is recognized as one of the most influential writers on international law in the United States in the post-World War II era. He was the author of the academically acclaimed book entitled The International Law of War: Transnational Coercion and World Public Order.

In this book, McDouglas examined the lawfulness of the use of force in the international context. McDouglas delved into the use of coercion, how it becomes permissible or impermissible, and its power as a sanctioning instrument. The author also discussed the fine difference between self-defense and aggression. Also included in McDouglas' book were analysis on how neutral parties are and should be treated and the management of combat situations. The process of overseeing captured enemy territory was another important point that was examined in the book.

The analyses of McDouglas proves to be useful and perpetually relevant in the discussions of international conflict. Although his book was published decades ago, it is still used as a reference by students, scholars, and decision makers. In his discussions, McDouglas took into account the foreign policies of the countries involved and the larger context of the conflicts. McDouglas also included past trends in his analysis and put forward appropriate projections and recommendations.
