Who doesn't want to own a plane? Having one puts you up there with showbiz moguls and corporate billionaires. It also means you're rich enough to own an island or a small country. For ordinary mortals though, owning a real plane is nothing more than a fantasy. So why not opt for the next best thing, a model airplane? Okay, a lot of people may argue that it's not exactly the next best thing (that would probably be a Ferrari) but for aeronautics enthusiasts, having a model airplane on display is still a great kick.
The DC-10-30 McDouglas Airplane Model of the Northwest Airlines is a hand-carved replica of a three-engine, long-range widebody airliner which succeeded the DC-8 and was included in the leagues of the Airbus A-300, Boeing 747, and Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. This McDouglas model was equipped with General Electric CF6-50 turbofan engines and much larger fuel tanks to increase its efficiency and range. It was also added with rear center landing gear which will carry the added weight.
The DC-10-30 McDouglas Model was a popular choice among European airlines such as Lufthansa,Swissair, Iberia, and KLM. Production of the plane was ceased in 1988 and the McDouglas was replaced by McDonnell Douglas MD-11.
